JUST SHOW UP: YOGA, MEDITATION, AND MINDFULNESSHave you ever said, "I'll start yoga when I'm in better shape, more flexible... I'll start meditation when my schedule is less crowded?" How long are you going to wait for life's circumstances to open up? Just show up! See what happens. Mindfulness training teaches us to be present—to show up in every moment of our lives, whether those moments are filled with difficulty or with joy. As we practice mindfulness, we develop the ability to stay present, open-hearted, and compassionate with ourselves, others, and the moment—even those we consider "difficult." Through mindfulness we learn to drop old habits and conditioned behaviors, to accept every moment regardless of content and without the overlay of "like" or "dislike." During this retreat, we will use yoga practice to bring mindfulness practice into everyday life and activity. We will experience first-hand the truism that how we are on the mat is how we are off the mat. Cindy and Susan bring a practical, accessible, and light-hearted approach to the teachings. Each day includes periods of silent and guided meditation, yoga, breath awareness, and structured mindfulness exercises to bring the body and mind to stillness. Evening group sessions will include time to share and integrate insights. Retreatants are asked to maintain silence during all non-class time. Cindy Dollar is the owner and senior teacher at One Center Yoga in Asheville, NC. Since her Iyengar yoga certification in 1990, she has taught workshops throughout the Southeast. Cindy has traveled to Pune, India several times to study with BKS and Geeta Iyengar. She is the co-author of Yoga Your Way. A long time student of Zen Buddhism, Cindy incorporates this mindfulness practice into her yoga teaching. Susan Grant is a psychologist in private practice and founder of The Mindfulness Center of Asheville. She combines cognitive therapy and mindfulness training in her work with individuals and with groups. Susan has practiced Soto Zen Buddhism since 1990 and is currently completing a 3-year Lay Minister Certification program. Susan brings to her work the awareness of her own journey and the rich rewards of bringing mindfulness to each moment of life. |
