Welcome to Southern Dharma Retreat Center

ENOUGH! THE HAPPINESS OF NOW

The Buddha's teaching on living in the present moment is a powerful antidote to the world's message that we need to have more and be more. Practices in this retreat will encourage us to dwell in the present, cultivate peace and stability in ourselves, and live with hearts capable of holding both joy and difficulty. Leslie's Dharma talks will focus on the three Dharma Doors: aimlessness, signlessness, and emptiness.

The retreat will be largely silent. It will include formal meditation periods, guided meditations, daily Dharma talks, individual interviews with Leslie, and opportunities for solitary practice in Southern Dharma's natural beauty and peace. This retreat is suitable for both newcomers and experienced practitioners.

Leslie Rawls received Dharma Lamp Transmission from Thich Nhat Hanh and is his resident Dharma Teacher in North Carolina. She is a lay member of the Buddhist Order of Interbeing, having been ordained in 1995 by Thich Nhat Hanh. Leslie edited The Mindfulness Bell from 1996 through 2001 and was lay coordinator for many of Thich Nhat Hanh's North American retreats during that time. She is the resident teacher and a founding member of the Charlotte Community of Mindfulness in North Carolina. Leslie also leads a weekly inmate Sangha in the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
