November 29, 2023
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN LOCATION FOR THIS PROGRAM. We will now be practicing together at Southern Dharma Retreat Center for the day. If you are also registered for the residential retreat with Lama Justin, you have the option of requesting to stay the night before and/or after the daylong to extend your stay on site. Please email email@example.com if you would like more information about this option.
One of the greatest gifts of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition to humanity is the practice of Mahamudra, a non-conceptual meditation practice with endless benefit in today’s hectic and frenetic times. The 9th century Indian tantric Buddhist siddha known as Maitripa was one of the most important proponents of this form of meditation, and his text known as the Mahamudra Sancamitha, is a beautiful song that captures the spacious and profound view central to Mahamudra meditation.
Join Lama Justin von Bujdoss for an introduction to mahāmudrā meditation through the poetry of Maitripa along with reflections on how we can distill wisdom from this lineage practice in such that still feels fresh and applicable to the lives we are living in this period of history. Lama Justin will share how this practice brought meaning and a sense of centeredness in his work as a chaplain in hospice and correctional settings, as a parent, and as a person navigating the unique issues that arise for us in the United States in 2023.
This program is open to all and will provide benefit to those new to meditation as well as seasoned practitioners.
This event will be offered at Southern Dharma Retreat Center (1661 West Rd Hot Springs) on Wednesday, November 29th. Check-in will be from 8:30am-9am. Program will conclude at 5pm and includes lunch. Your registration fee is offered on a sliding scale ($25 – $75); kindly offer to pay at the highest amount that you are able. All proceeds will be offered to our teacher as dana.
We will not be requiring or administering Covid-19 tests for this program, but please bring mindfulness to your activity in the days leading up to the retreat out of consideration for our staff, teachers and participants. Avoiding higher risk situations and making use of masks whenever possible will minimize the likelihood of transmitting viruses to others while on site. We strongly encourage folks to stay home if they are symptomatic of any communicable illness.
