[DAYLONG/DURHAM] Balance and Self-Compassion: For the Election Season and Everything Else!
Eve Decker and Fresh "Lev" White
October 29, 2023
The Buddha taught that when we can respond to whatever the present moment is offering with both acceptance and wise, compassionate action, we provide refuge for our hearts and emotions. This daylong retreat will offer practices of equanimity and self-compassion that will help us settle in the midst of things as they unfold, rather than become more reactive.
During this month of Trans Day Of Remembrance we will also have an ancestor, transcestor, and compassion altar you can contribute to. Please feel free to bring photos, small mementos and/or gather small items from the land.
This retreat welcomes all self-identified LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual, and beyond) persons and allies for an opportunity to engage in supportive practices that encourage nurturing, healing and connection to self and others.
Please join Fresh Lev White and Eve Decker for a day of replenishment and support for us all in general, before the election, holidays, and beyond.
This event will be offered in person in Durham, NC on Sunday October 29th at Avila Center, 711 Mason Road, Durham, NC 27712. Masks are optional at this time. RSVPs are requested but not required. Check-in will be from 9:30am-10am and the program will conclude at 4pm. Your registration fee is offered on a sliding scale ($25 – $75); kindly offer to pay at the highest amount that you are able. All proceeds will be offered to our teachers as dana. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The residential retreat cancellation policy does not apply to this program. Registrations will be eligible for a partial or full refund upon request for cancellations made 7 days or less before the program. Please email registrar@southerndharma.org to cancel registration or request a full emergency refund.
We will not be requiring or administering Covid-19 tests for this program, but please bring mindfulness to your activity in the days leading up to the retreat out of consideration for our staff, teachers and participants. Avoiding higher risk situations and making use of masks whenever possible will minimize the likelihood of transmitting viruses to others while on site. We strongly encourage folks to stay home if they are symptomatic of any communicable illness.
