AT HOME The Paramis: Crossing the Stream of Suffering, A Study and Practice Retreat

DaeJa Napier

April 19 - 25, 2022

In this dharma study and practice retreat we will explore the ten paramis, or qualities of an awakening mind and heart. The teachings and cultivation of the paramis illuminate and guide our way along the path of love and liberation. Practical in their nature, each parami can be cultivated and applied directly in our daily lives. As well, they are profound supports for awakening in our formal practice. As each parami becomes more intentional, a clearer sense of meaning and purpose begins to motivate engagement with life, in ways that serve the greater good that exists in each moment.

The ten paramis are: Generosity, Virtue, Renunciation, Wisdom, Energy, Patience, Truthfulness, Resolve, Lovingkindness and Equanimity.

The daily schedule will establish a contemplative environment in both group and at home practice periods. Mornings will begin with a group meditation, including sitting and walking meditation. This will be followed by dharma study, contemplation and discussion focusing on two of the ten paramis each day. Afternoons will be spent integrating themes carried over from the morning dharma study, contemplations and discussion. Each day will include guidance in the skillful use of at home periods that support the balance of formal practice and ordinary activities. Evenings will begin with a group meditation followed by a dharma talk and discussion. Individual meetings with DaeJa will be scheduled throughout the retreat. With the exception of times during group study and discussion, the retreat will be held in Noble Silence.

At home retreats support the possibility of extending our practice of awakening into everyday living. As a result, one experiences growing confidence in the ability to remain present, balanced and skillfully responsive throughout the “ten thousand joys and sorrows” that occur in life. Join us to practice the timeless teachings of the Buddha as a pathway to love and liberation from suffering.
